How to verify an MDBA breeder

A breeder number is a useful starting point, but it does not establish the identity of whoever quotes it. Check membership through the MDBA itself, then check the documents for the particular litter.

Australian Cobberdog House is an MDBA member, breeder number 45027.

Use the official breeder-check page

Open the MDBA breeder check directly. Use its member-number form and follow the instructions shown there. We do not promise an instant result or a particular response time.

Keep the breeder number and the details you have been given together. If the information is unclear or does not match, contact the MDBA through its official website before making a payment.

Confirm the person behind the number

The MDBA recommends speaking with the breeder on the telephone number it associates with the membership, checking the matching final digits. A number copied onto a website or social-media profile is not enough.

A video call may help you discuss a puppy and its surroundings, but it does not replace independent identity and document checks. Do not treat photographs, a logo or a reassuring conversation as proof on their own.

What the check does not establish

Membership verification is not a health assessment of a puppy, an insurance policy, approval of a particular contract or proof that every statement made in an advert has been checked.

The documents included with a puppy also matter. Ask whether the sale includes pedigree or registration documents and what breeding permissions apply. Do not assume that a breeder’s membership number means every puppy is sold with the same paperwork.

Review the litter, not just the membership

Before paying a reservation, ask for:

  • Information identifying the parents and the origin of the puppy.
  • The relevant health and genetic reports, with dog identification, laboratory and date.
  • The proposed handover age and an outline of the initial socialisation programme.
  • The documents required for the destination if the puppy will travel.
  • Reservation and sale conditions, including the applicable guarantees.

The MDBA’s registration requirements explain its framework for Australian Cobberdogs. They do not replace the records for the parents of the litter you are considering.
