Questions and answers

Questions before reserving an Australian Cobberdog

Find practical answers on choosing a puppy, reservation, health records and travel from Spain. Start with the breed overview if you are new to the Cobberdog, or contact us about a particular litter.

The breed, at home

Living with a Cobberdog

Is the Australian Cobberdog suitable for people with allergies?

Low shedding is not an allergy guarantee. Dog allergens occur in dander, saliva and urine, and individual responses vary. Consult an allergy specialist before deciding; do not use a visit or a video call as a tolerance test. See Coat and allergies for the distinction.

Does it shed? How much grooming does the coat need?

The Cobberdog typically has a low-shedding coat, not a coat that never loses hair. Regular brushing and grooming are needed, with the routine adapted to texture, length and tangling. Ask a groomer to demonstrate suitable care. Our coat page covers the practical questions.

Australian Cobberdog or Australian Labradoodle: what is the difference?

The names have related histories but refer to different registration frameworks. We work within the MDBA framework for Australian Cobberdogs. Australian Labradoodle associations have their own standards and rules. A name alone does not establish health or temperament; compare the litter’s documents. See the comparison guide.

Male or female?

Individual temperament and the circumstances of your home are more useful than assumptions about males and females. Around week seven, our ethologist assesses each puppy; this helps us suggest possible matches alongside your preferences and routine. It is not a prediction of adult behaviour.

Can it be left alone at home?

We introduce independence gradually, but no programme guarantees comfort with being alone. At home, begin with brief, manageable separations and respond to the puppy’s behaviour rather than a fixed hourly timetable. Seek veterinary or qualified behavioural support for distress. See socialisation before and after handover.

How much exercise does a Cobberdog need?

Plan daily activity, play, rest and training suited to the individual dog’s age, health and energy. Size or a breed description cannot set one exercise allowance for every puppy. Discuss physical activity with your vet and tell us about your routine when considering a litter.

The process

Reservation, contact and breeder verification

What is included in the price from €3,200?

Prices start at €3,200. The individual proposal explains what is included: age- and destination-appropriate veterinary care, identification and documents, the sale contract and a starter kit. The initial socialisation programme and temperament assessment are part of our process. Confirm travel arrangements and any associated costs before reserving. See Price and reservation.

How do the waiting list and the reservation work?

The reservation is €500 and is deducted in full from the final price. The conditions for cancellation, refund, change of puppy or transfer to a later litter are set out in the contract documents we hand over before payment. If no puppies are available at the moment, we work with a waiting list: it is set up with the same amount, and you give us three combinations of size, sex and colour in your order of preference so that we can contact you as soon as a matching litter is born. The balance is paid by bank transfer in the week before handover. Under Puppies we explain availability and under Price and reservation each step.

Can we meet you before reserving?

You can ask for a video call when it is possible and appropriate, to discuss the puppies and your questions. Contact us through the contact page. We do not offer visits to the breeding facility or meetings with other families as part of this process.

What does it mean that you are members of the MDBA?

Australian Cobberdog House is an MDBA member, breeder number 45027. The MDBA maintains registration rules for the breed. Use its breeder-check form and follow its identity-checking guidance. Membership verification does not replace the parents’ health records or the sale contract. Our verification guide explains the checks.

Health and guarantees

What the contract covers in writing, and what it does not

What guarantees are in the contract?

The conditions and guarantees for the particular puppy are provided in writing before the sale. Read their scope, duration and notification procedures before paying. H639 testing of breeding dogs helps inform mating decisions but does not guarantee future health. See Health and genetics.

Do you neuter puppies before handover?

No, and we do not require neutering in the contract. Suitability and timing should be discussed with the vet caring for the individual dog; we do not recommend one age for every dog. Read our neutering policy and its veterinary sources.

How big will my puppy be as an adult?

We discuss an estimate from around the first month and review it as the puppy grows. Our practical guide labels are Mini, Small, Medium and Large; they are not universal registry categories. The size page gives approximate measurements in cm, kg, inches and pounds.

International delivery

The journey to your country and what comes after

From what age can a puppy travel to another EU country?

Our minimum handover age is three months. Where valid primary rabies vaccination is required, the earliest departure is around fifteen weeks, subject to the protocol and the dossier. Commercial movement also requires the official certificate and TRACES notification; a passport alone is insufficient. See International delivery.

Can a puppy travel to a country outside the EU?

The destination’s commercial import rules, Spain’s export certification and carrier requirements must be checked before reservation. We do not guarantee that a particular country or route can be served. Tell us the intended destination so the relevant authority requirements and practical arrangements can be assessed.

How does the puppy travel, and where is the handover?

We do not send puppies alone with a transport company. We discuss accompanied travel and an agreed handover point where feasible, including collection in Spain. The destination, puppy’s age, documentation and route determine which option is possible. Collection does not turn a sale-related journey into private pet travel. See delivery details.

Is the puppy vaccinated, treated for parasites and handed over with a passport?

The puppy receives veterinary care and documents appropriate to its age and destination. These include identification, the applicable vaccination and parasite-treatment records, a veterinary health certificate and a passport where relevant. Commercial travel requires additional official documentation, not merely the passport. Read the movement requirements and our health programme.
